In celebration of Rotary International’s Literacy Month, Teton Valley’s Rotary Club is kicking off a book drive for local elementary students in Kindergarten through third grade now through March 22nd. The goal of the project is to promote early literacy by making books part of a healthy childhood, getting more books into the homes of children.

The Rotary Club is asking for community members with children to look through their book collections and donate no longer used K-3 level books. The books should be in very good to like new condition and age appropriate. Donations will also be accepted at the upcoming Driggs and Victor Elementary book fairs, where a wide variety of books will be available for individuals to donate to the drive. Purchasing books at the book fair also benefits the schools.

Cash donations may be sent to the Rotary Club of Teton Valley Foundation, where the club will use those funds to purchase the remaining books for student and teacher libraries. The books collected will be sorted and distributed by elementary teachers into age categories. The books collected will go to elementary teachers to build their classroom libraries and students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. The Club hopes to raise a minimum of 500 books by March 22nd.

Books may be dropped off at Driggs, Tetonia and Victor Elementary Schools, Rendezvous Upper Elementary, All State Insurance, Silver Star Communications, and US Bank in both Victor and Driggs. Donations may be sent to: Rotary Club of Teton Valley Foundation, PO Box 1158, Driggs, ID  83422. For more information, contact Jennifer Brannen at 787-1515.
